I Weep For Our Culture

Not a girly, feminine, sissified weeping, mind you...An annoyed, frustrated, "what-in-the-world-are-we-doing?" weeping...The truth is we Americans have allowed our culture to go down the toilet. It's crap. It's trash. It's becoming the worst-smelling type of excrement imaginable.

I'm speaking, of course, of the various entertainment media outlets that pander to just about every sick, pathetic, vulgar element of society. Americans consume it. Someone consumes it, apparently, otherwise these pipelines of vomitous sewage would go out of business.

Yes, yes, we've always had cultural rot-gut, but it was never celebrated in a public venue as it is today. Yes, America has never been perfect - so what? Perfection isn't the issue - common decency is. Since when did we have to witness this garbage in the media, and during family view times no less? Various and sundry sex acts, people eating animal sex organs, the daily lives of porn stars, violence of all sorts, the sexualization of kids...All of this gloriously portrayed on our TV and cinema screens. And people watch it.

It used to be that adult entertainment (stuff with some bawdy humor, a la Saturday Night Live) was relegated to the later evening hours - 10pm or so. Now the adult entertainment isn't just an occasional double entendre, or some implied amorous encounter, it's a sex act splashed right there on the screen. It's some violent assault - bludgeoning, disembowelments, rape - acted out right in front of our eyes.

It's coarsening our culture, and it's hurting all of us. Parents, people with some remaining sense of...(wait for it)...COMMON DECENCY...RESPONSIBILITY...VIRTUE...need to rebel. Stop watching this crap, start blocking the channels that proffer it, and stop frequenting the businesses that promote it.
